Australia Melbourne4 Theatres in Melbourne

(1 vote)

Melbourne is today a centre for the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, sport and tourism. It is often referred to as the "cultural capital of Australia”. Melbourne boasts some wonderful old theatres, rich in history, fame and infamy. There is always something on, proven in more recent times by the number of productions who have chosen Melbourne for their premiere.
The Princess Theatre is one of the world's grandest Victorian theatres, dating from 1886 with a magnificent façade, domed mansard roofs, cast iron filigree, marble staircase and foyer, undoubtedly a unique cultural asset to the city of Melbourne.
Guests can dine in the Melba or Marriner rooms before taking in one of the international shows or major musical productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserable, Cats, Dirty Dancing and many more
Topped by a jeweled copper dome, the Forum Theatre is a fantastic and perhaps exaggerated arabic inspired building complete with clock tower, oriel windows, and cupola. The interiors of the forum are just as spectacular as the exteriors, and almost identical to the interiors of the Capitol theatre in Sydney. The exotic design continues as you step through the doors. Lavish moulded plaster, gold paint and reproduction casts of famous Greek and Italian sculptures line an auditorium interior topped with a soaring blue ceiling punched with stars designed to look like an open sky. The Forum hosts cabaret, rock concerts and the annual Melbourne Film Festival.
